In service to our country
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?-- Darryl Worley country music singer/songwriter. I never will.. September 11, 2001. Where were you when the world stopped turning?-- Alan Jackson country music singer/songwriter. The September 11 Digital Archive will help you remember.
Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, Clay Hubbard, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, and Mark Rutherford. I hope that I have not made a mistake or left someone off the listing of these men from Santa Anna who are serving our country. If I have it is because I have only received a few e-mails regarding those from Santa Anna in service to our country. So this short list is my best effort.
You know sometimes it really doesn't hit you until it is personal.
1054 American soldiers or sailors have died in Operation Enduring Freedom as reported by the Department of Defense and the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count. Pray for our country, our leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.

Mike Montgomery - Candidate for Coleman County Constable
As submitted by Mike Montgomery:
I WOULD LIKE TO WORK FOR YOU
I'm Mike Montgomery and I would like to represent you, as your next Constable of
Coleman County.
As Your Constable; a peace officer of the county; I would serve your needs to make Coleman County a safe and peaceful place to live. I believe my strongest attributes to you would be my work ethics, my respect for the law and all people and a desire to make a positive difference in this community.
I am qualified to be Your Constable. I have worked as a municipal peace officer, county peace officer and state peace officer, working for Elgin P.D., Blanco Sheriff Dept, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. I also was a civil process server for Taylor County. For the past five years I have worked as a Juvenile Correctional Officer at the Texas Youth Commission in Brownwood. Two of those five years I have been a supervisor. This position has been very rewarding because of my involvement in counseling and teaching problem youth better ways of dealing with their feelings, problems, authority and following rules and laws. I have done this by treating them with respect, role modeling positive behavior, keeping my word and being firm, fair and consistent with all youth by holding them accountable to rules, laws, and guidelines.
I care about Coleman County and will work hard to keep Coleman County a great place to live and raise a family. I will work hard to keep crime and drugs out of Coleman County.
I'm married to Denise Blair, daughter of Delma and Eurell Blair of Santa Anna. We have one son at home, Justin Will McElrath. My oldest son Mike Montgomery II graduated from Panther Creek and attended Angelo State until activated by National Guard to be deployed to Iraq. We attend Santa Anna Baptist Church. I'm the son of Charles and Frances (Slayton) Smith.
If elected I will work hard for the people of Coleman County and bring a common sense
approach to law enforcement. A vote for me will be a vote for change.
Please give me your support and vote so 1 can serve you. Thank You.
Mike Montgomery
A note from James: I have told you before that I am not much of a political person and that I vote for the man. Well I have not known Mike for very long.. maybe five or six years; but, I can tell you that he is a very hard worker and great with young people. I have known Denise, Justin, and Eurell and Delma Blair for much longer, maybe 25 years or so as Denise and my older sister Danna were both in the SAHS Class of 76. Denise, Mr. and Mrs. Blair were good customers of mine when I was in the service station business. I also worked with Denise at Coleman County Broadcasting/Telecommunications for several years and I can tell you that she is as good as they get. Anybody that is OK with Denise and the Blairs is OK by me.
Good Luck Mike!

Lady Mountaineers Lose District Opener
as submitted by Coach Bob Libby
On Tuesday, the Lady Mountaineers played host to the Lady Longhorns of Bronte. Santa Anna started out strong jumping to a 13-4 lead. Numerous errors enabled Bronte to get back into the game. Both teams battled for each point but Bronte was able to eke out a 26-24 victory. Game two resulted in a big victory for Bronte by a score of 25-20.
The Lady SAM's were on the verge of being swept but would not allow the moment to happen. In a great turnaround, the ladies regained their composure and outplayed Bronte in the next two games by scores of 25-22 and 25-17. The Lady Mountaineers did a great job of passing, serving and attacking the net.
It looked as if momentum was now beginning to favor Santa Anna for game five. Santa Anna however, had trouble with missed serves and lost the gained momentum to Bronte. Bronte was able to come out on top with a 15-9 victory. Santa Anna is now 0-1 in district and will play another district favorite Veribest on Tuesday.
The Junior Varsity girls lost a tough match to Bronte also. Showing vast improvement, the girls lost by scores of 26-24, 21-25 and 23-25. They will also play Veribest on Tuesday.
