In service to our country
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?-- Darryl Worley country music singer/songwriter. I never will.. September 11, 2001. Where were you when the world stopped turning?-- Alan Jackson country music singer/songwriter. The September 11 Digital Archive will help you remember.
Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, Clay Hubbard, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, and Mark Rutherford. I hope that I have not made a mistake or left someone off the listing of these men from Santa Anna who are serving our country. If I have it is because I have only recieved a few e-mails regarding those from Santa Anna in service to our country. So this short list is my best effort.
You know sometimes it really doesn't hit you until it is personal.

Lady Mountaineers Beat Bangs in Nail Biter!
as submitted by Coach Bob Libby
On Tuesday the Lady Mountaineers visited Abilene Christian and came out on the short
end of the match losing by scores of 10-25, 16-25 and 21-25. In the first game Santa
Anna played very tentative and it showed in the box score. Games two and three were
played with more intensity as the Lady Mountaineers began to show some resemblance
of a team. Santa Anna jumped out to an 11-4 lead in game three but could not sustain
enough momentum to secure the lead.
Saturday was a much different outcome. Santa Anna started out slow but fought hard to the end losing to Bangs in game one 25-27. The Lady Mountaineers serves were extremely accurate and difficult to return in game two which resulted in a commanding 25-14 victory. In game three Santa Anna came out flat and was no match for Bangs losing 15-25. Game four was a must win game and the Lady Mountaineers came through! The service game and excellent hustle resulted in big 25-17 victory and the decisive rubber match.
The all important game five was as unpredictable as the previous four games. Bangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead and was playing excellent volleyball. However, fickle Mo, as in momentum began to gradually change in the Lady Mountaineers favor. Santa Anna fought back and showed some mental toughness and courage by outscoring Bangs 15-3 and winning the game 15-8.
Santa Anna's record now stands at 7-8 as the Lady Mountaineers enter into district play. The first district opponent will be on Tuesday against the Bronte Lady Horns who have been traditionally very strong. This year the Lady Mountaineers have already beaten Bronte which was a pre-season favorite to make it to the playoffs. The JV girls will play at 5:30 followed by the varsity girls. These games will be played at Santa Anna and it would be great if Santa Anna fans would come cheer the girls on to VICTORY in Santa Anna.

A little time off
Once again I did not add anything to the page over the weekend but I did work quite a bit gathering some new information for upcoming articles, so please stay tuned. Some have asked where I find the time to do this or how much time do I spend on the site. Well not counting the hours going to games and such but actually working on the pictures, editing the pages, and uploading everything probably around ten hours a week.. mostly taking the place of late evening TV watching that I don't really miss all that much.
I also took a little time off this past Sunday to got to the Dallas Cowboys football game with some guys from work and I had a great time but I sure am tired.. some times too much fun can really wear you out! It was really a once in a lifetime experience for me as I have never been to a Cowboys game and I will share more later as I have time, but these are the most memorable for me.. we got to sit in a Crown Suite courtesy of Alltel. Here are the guys taking it easy in the AC while I was sweating it out!
I was kind of waiting around to take some pictures of players hoping to catch a closeup of Jerry Jones or Bill Parcels as I really wasn't sure who was playing for the Cowboys anymore.. and maybe even a pic of a cheerleader or two and the cheerleaders came up to the edge of the tunnel and then went back in. It was getting pretty hot so I decided to head back up to a little better climate and as I exited the elevators to the suite, there were two Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders posing for pictures. Talk about the right place at the right time! You know this was one of those what I call "Lane" moments.. when you have a big story to tell but no one really believes it. My good friend and Santa Anna folk, Lane Guthrie, is always telling these kinds of stories and.. well.. Lane I got some proof!
More to come about my Dallas Cowboys experience after I talk about my favorite teams.. the Santa Anna Mountaineers and Lady Mountaineers.
Friday Night Lights
The Santa Anna Varsity Mountaineers came up short.. way short again this last Friday in this six-man football match-up against the Highland Hornets in Highland. The Mountaineers never were in the game with game ending shortly after halftime with a score of 46-0. The loss will move the Mountaineers down again from 36th place in the SixManFootball.com rankings.
The Mountaineers will have another tough game ahead as they face the sixth ranked Panther Creek Panthers at home this Friday in the district opener at Mountaineer Stadium. The Mountaineers are gonna need lots of support so bring your Black and Gold and we'll see ya at the game!
Pep rally and football game pictures are up on the Sports page.
