The Risk is Real - Serving our Country
Remembering those that have served and those that are serving our country.
You know sometimes it doesn't hit you until it is personal.
Please remember these Santa Anna folks that are serving our country in military combat, training, or support: Maricela (Marty) Siller, Clay Stewardson, Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, Mark Rutherford, Allen Tucker, James Culpepper, Shane Watson, Brandon Beloat, Glen Donham, and Jeffrey Watson.
Pray for our country, its' leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.
Many service men and women return home safely. Operation Tribute to Freedom Homecoming Photographs.
New Fad Diet
I am going to tell you a funny on myself for Friday.
It has been a while since I woke up in the middle of dream or even could remember having one. I have been trying to lose a few pounds and not eating as much to the point where I feel hungry every once in a while and maybe even most of the time. I dreamed I was in a restaurant that had the largest buffet that I have ever seen in my life. There was so much food that it was piled up everywhere. Right in the middle of loading up my plate I woke up chewing on my arm!
Call it the "Hannibal the Cannibal" diet... Ok go ahead and put me in a muzzle and straight jacket. I wonder if I am low in cholesterol? I think I know that answer already. Besides how can I lose weight that way?
Somebody better tell Cindy not to sleep too close!
Paul Harvey said in his Thursday morning program that women who eat cereal for breakfast are less fat than those that eat no breakfast at all. I think it was part of a Total cereal advertisement... he makes me so mad when he sells me on something like that! So there you have it ladies eat cereal for breakfast to lose weight!
Ok one more and I am going to bed before I fall asleep at the keyboard... hmm I wonder what those keys taste like?
The last one is a confession of sorts. I am a cheesaholic. I grew up when milk, cheese, and butter were a big part of the old food pyramid. I could eat cheese at every meal.. even the good ones like salad, etc. I think I should have grown up in Switzerland maybe. I did however grow up eating grilled cheese sandwiches... I think I already told you my grilled cheese in every state and truck stop in five states story. In case I haven't or I have and you missed it or forgot it.. here it is... again.. in short form.. My step Dad, Tex Wright was a truck driver most of my early life and he would take me with him sometimes and my favorite meal was a grilled cheese sandwich and a big ole glass of milk. Put a pickle on my grilled cheese and I am hittin four of the five food groups now!
I am somewhat of the family grilled cheese chef... and my kids would say a master grilled cheese chef maybe. Whether it is the standard butter on white with sliced American with hamburger dill slices, a buttered Texas Toast with extra thick Velveeta slices and baby dills, or the rare buttered split top wheat with mayo and cheddar and Zesty dill slice that I learned how to prepare from the Morris's North of town. Well it sounds like I better go get me a glass of milk and slice of cheese and hit the hay
Have a good Friday and we will see you at the game!
Side Tracked
I must confess that I have had some motivation problems here lately and I should apologize.. or maybe not.. you get what you pay for sometimes. I often say what I need is a "good swift kick.." to fix whatever reason I am moping around.
Maybe some of you do too.. because some of you just haven't been sending me very much to work with lately either. And you thought I was going to do all the work? Not hardly... I am getting too old for that! Besides Cindy has been working my tail off around the house!
Well I was fooling around on the Net Monday night because I had forgotten about Monday Night Football (actually nobody would let me have the remote) and was doing some searching for the "Maxine for President" campaign when I ran across this hilarious site... A blog of Old Horse Tail Snake - Gene Maudlin's Blog of Snake Tails. Maudlin is a 75 year old blogger from Salem Oregon who's occupation is "retired dude". He describes his blog as "This is about comic life and times in the Old Folks Home. Believe it, or believe it. Or not." It is a collection of some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen on the Internet. Check it out... I think you will laugh too. Some of it is a little off color but not too bad for an old guy. Be warned he doesn't like George Bush.
Oh, and send your news to me at news@santaannanews.com.
Side Tracked - Part II
Well I finally got one of the remote controls. Only because Jessica was gone to Brownwood and just long enough to watch the Houston Astros win the National League pennant. This is the first time for a team from Texas to go to the World Series so this is big. I am not that much of a baseball fan but I like to watch the World Series kind of like the final four of the NBA and the NHL's Stanley Cup. The Astros will take on the Chicago White Sox starting on Saturday and televised nationally on Fox.
Weekend Weather
Cindy and I enjoyed most of the weekend piddling around outside with the beautiful weather.
Somehow or the other we all have got a cold or allergies kicking us around over the last few days so the news will be a little light until we get to feeling better.
My Internet access was broken Sunday night which also kept me from being able to do much.
Hail Santa Anna! Hail Mountaineers!
