The Risk is Real - Serving our Country

Remembering those that have served and those that are serving our country.

You know sometimes it doesn't hit you until it is personal.

Please remember these Santa Anna folks that are serving our country in military combat, training, or support: Maricela (Marty) Siller, Clay Stewardson, Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, Mark Rutherford, Allen Tucker, James Culpepper, Shane Watson, Brandon Beloat, Glen Donham, and Jeffrey Watson.

1945 American soldiers or sailors have died in Operation Enduring Freedom as reported by the Department of Defense and the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count. Pray for our country, its' leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.

Please remember the many serving as volunteers for various groups and those that may be working for the media or one of the many Department of Defense contractors that have employees in support roles in Iraq including Santa Anna's Jason Dane. These folks are serving an important part in the rebuilding of Iraq and the danger is just as great if not more for them as it is for soldiers.

The Iraq Coalition Casualty Count has also tracked the deaths of 104 American contractors working in Iraq so the risk is real.

Many service men and women return home safely. Operation Tribute to Freedom Homecoming Photographs.

We must never forget the sacrifices of men and women serving our country from all generations. Tex Wright recently sent me this information:

The Coleman County Historical Commission has started work on a new project. Since this year is the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII, we (Texas Historical Commission statewide) have started a project to honor the ones who served.
We (I) have set up a Web Page to keep people posted on what is being done and to ask for their help in remembering those Men and Women.
The Web Page is:Coleman County Historical Comm. WW2 Commemorative Activities

Lady Mountaineers Volleyball

Well the Lady Mountaineers have struggled over the last few weeks and played a really bad day of volleyball against Water Valley last Saturday. Tuesday was a different story as the Lady Mountaineers came to play again but they just didn't get after it enough to beat the team from Miles. They didn't just lay down either as the Lady Bulldogs had to go to a tie breaker to win it.

The Lady Mountaineers will travel a long way to Sterling City this Saturday to face another tough district opponent. The athleticism of these girls never ceases to amaze me.

Homecoming and Ex Students' Association Meeting

Well I finally got around to Cindy's photos of the Homecoming Parade, Pep Rally, and Ex Students' Association meeting. I created a special Homecoming Parade, Pep Rally, and Ex Students' Association Meeting Photo Album. It came out kind of weird since she took a lot of portrait shots which I had to hand rotate before creating the album... so they seem kind of all mixed up. But she did a good job and took some nice ones.

I had to work Friday and Saturday so I missed out on all the fun stuff! But Cindy told me that it all went well. She also said the Band and Drama Departments put on a good show for the Exes at the Ex Students' Association meeting.

Some Exes were paraded

Mountaineer Football

The Santa Anna Mountaineers took on the Eagles from Lohn before a packed house Homecoming crowd. Going into halftime it looked like it was going to be a little tighter game with score 14-6 but the Mountaineers came out of the locker room meaning business in the second half with a final score of 66-19 with the Six Man Mercy Rule ending the game with under a minute left in the fourth quarter.

The Mountaineers will face Novice in Novice this Friday. The Hornets have already forfeited the rest of their season I think in order to play some ineligible players and so they have enough.

Nice weather for our game

And a pretty good sunset too!

Lots of mums hanging around

These little ones sang the National Anthem for us

The band marched and played at halftime all dressed in their uniforms

Even SAM got held up by the cheerleaders!

There was a game too... here Ryan Guerrero cuts behind a block

See the Sports Page for the photo albums of the game and some of the Homecoming game activities. I will have the parade, pep rally, and Exes meeting a little later this week as I have time.

Saint Willow Baptist Church Fundraiser

All the members at St. Willow Baptist church would like to thank everybody for helping out during our time of need. We wanted to take time and Thank everybody that contributed their time and effort. We raised about $4000 dollars during our fundraisers. Our goal was $5000, so we were a little under our goal. We worked long and hard and earned every bit of it, thanks to all the helpers we had. Now we are looking for an electrician to come out and take a look and give us a rough estimate on how much its going to take for us to get things back in check and up and running. If any one knows of any good, reasonable electricians please send him our way! Please call Judy Jackson @ cell #(325)-214-2065, or @ home (325)-348-9129

Again, Thanks to all that Contributed! May God Bless each and everyone of you! !
