In service to our country
You know sometimes it really doesn't hit you until it is personal.
I got to visit briefly with Clay Hubbard at the Homecoming Pep Rally the other day and he sent me an e-mail later. He is fixing to ship out to the Pacific. He also would like for me to share his e-mail address with you and it is hubbard.clay@lincoln.navy.mil.
Clay is the son of Gary Hubbard and Kim Stewardson Hubbard. He has a little Sister Audra and his grandparents are Burgess and Gail Stewardson of Santa Anna.
I got to work with Clay at the Shoppin' Baskit in Coleman for several years and he was a pretty darn good kid. Of course he had a little of his Uncle's blood in him and got into a little trouble here and there, but haven't we all? His Uncles are Judd and Ward Stewardson. Ward was in my class and let's see how can I say this.. he liked to see how much mud he could get on the hood of his four wheel drive Chevy Truck.. you know like they do on the Chevy Truck commercials.. I can say this because I witnessed it from the passenger side and we just happened to be in the Show Barn parking lot on stock show day after a lot of rain! Of course you have to cut him some slack because this was also during the time when Starsky and Hutch and the Dukes of Hazard were on prime time TV and well.. Ward liked to see if his Trans Am could do those 180's! Pretty appropriate that Ward would go into the car business later don't you think?
Well enough of all that stuff.. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Clay and wish him well.
Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, Clay Hubbard, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, Mark Rutherford, and Allen Tucker. I hope that I have not made a mistake or left someone off the listing of these men from Santa Anna who are serving our country. If I have it is because I have only received a few e-mails regarding those from Santa Anna in service to our country. So this short list is my best effort.
1103 American soldiers or sailors have died in Operation Enduring Freedom as reported by the Department of Defense and the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count. Pray for our country, our leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.

Friday Night Lights
The Santa Anna Varsity Mountaineers came out on top of the Rochelle Hornets this last Friday at Rochelle. The Mountaineers let the Hornets score first but came back to win decisively 55-30.
The Mountaineers slid to 33rd place in the SixManFootball.com rankings even though they beat Rochelle. Which just goes to show you that the rankings don't mean just a whole lot!

Lady Mountaineers Fall Short
By: Coach Bob Libby
On Tuesday the Lady Mountaineers started the second half of district play by visiting the Bronte Lady Horns. Excellent hustle and great team play enabled Santa Anna to jump out to a 13-4 lead in game one. Bronte was able to overcome the strong play and eventually worked their way back into the game and won the game 27-25 in a very exciting game. In game two Bronte was able to finish out with some big serves at the end and win 25-14. Bronte took advantage of several Santa Anna mistakes in game three and won 25-16.
The Veribest Lady Falcons visited Santa Anna on Saturday evening. In the previous contest Santa Anna played very tentatively and Veribest dominated the match. This match was different. In game one Santa Anna played excellent volleyball up until the final points and lost by a score of 25-22. Game two was a repeat of game one, the Lady Mountaineers dominated Veribest until they hit a wall at the 20 point mark. Mental breakdowns enabled the Lady Falcons to come out on top 25-21. Santa Anna played hard in game three but was unable to create any momentum and fell to Veribest 25-21. The Lady Mountaineers are playing hard they just can't seem to make the big plays in the end to win the games and matches.

You know how I like sunsets and on my Sunday night ride the sky just lit up and I just could not help but share this shot looking West from town.
It's not really news, but it means something to me because last Wednesday SantaAnnaNews.com went over 2000 hits on the Front Page and we went over 300 page views per day on the site and the average pages viewed per visitor is almost two. Some are searching for it but the search engines haven't really caught on yet and I really can't afford to pay them for ranking. I figure the best way is for you, the readers, to tell others and that is part of what this is all about. All these statistics kind of tell me you are at least getting some use out of this site.
Many of you have sent e-mails and many of you have told me in person how much you are enjoying the site. I would like to once again say thanks for coming by SantaAnnaNews.com and come back soon!
