Bubba Dawson, Cousin Luke, and Bubba Jayden

Bubba Dawson, Cousin Luke, and Bubba Jayden

Jolie Rambo was born at 5:02 PM on Thursday, November 9th, at the Abilene Regional Medical Center. She came a little early just like her bubba Dawson and cousin Luke. She weighed in at four pounds and fifteen ounces and eighteen and half inches long. Her and Mom, Jennifer are doing great. Grandma Cindy is doing OK too!
Jolie Rambo

I am sure that she heard from cousin Luke and bubba Dawson how good the treatment was in the ARMC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I'll bet she will be home as soon as Dr. Marshall and those nice nurses get through spoiling her real good!
She wasn't supposed to be here until December but I think she heard something about Birthday cake... Aunt Crystal's Birthday was the 6th and Jennifer's was the 8th. Big Bubba Jayden's is the 12th but I guess she wanted to get a head start or maybe Jennifer didn't want to finish her shift last night at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. Grandma Cindy had to get out of bed at 2:30 Thursday morning to pick her up and give them a ride to Abilene.

The Mountaineers will take on the May Tigers in May Friday night for the Division I District 13 Championship.
The undefeated 12th ranked Tigers are 12 point favorites but the 15th ranked Mountaineers may just take it to the Tigers. The Mountaineers lost a close one to the Tigers last year in preseason.
Who the Tigers have played and how they did:
Beat Woodson 48-14
Beat Cherokee 52-0
Beat Bryson 49-0
Beat Strawn 52-6
Beat Lometa 48-0
Beat Sidney 50-0
Beat Panther Creek 56-6 (Santa Anna beat Panther Creek 64-0)
Beat Rising Star 54-6 (Santa Anna beat Rising Star 46-0)
Beat Blanket 56-8 (Santa Anna beat Blanket 59-14)
So I think it will be a little closer than 12 points. So get your black and gold on and let's go get a Tiger by the tail!
Santa Anna High School will present their Veterans Program Friday, November 10 at 10 am. Please come out and see this very moving program.

ATTORNEY GENERAL ABBOTT WINS LANDMARK RULING TO KEEP TEXAS OPEN MEETINGS ACT INTACTRuling by U.S. District Judge Robert Junell says law does not restrict free speech among public officials |
|||
| PECOS - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott applauded a sweeping decision by U.S. District Judge Robert Junell late Tuesday as the best news yet that the Texas Open Meetings Act is alive and well, constitutionally, and must be respected by all public officials as a beacon for openness. This law requires openness in conducting the public's business; it's that simple. I am pleased Judge Junell exhibited the clarity of mind to uphold one of democracy's greatest treasures, said Attorney General Abbott.
Public officials who seek ways to skirt the law governing public meetings, while asserting their right to "free speech", are not acting in the spirit of democracy and we must never tolerate these acts in a free country. In his ruling, Junell disagreed with a number of allegations brought by former Alpine city councilpersons that the open meetings law restricts or chills free speech of public officials who are acting in their official capacities. In October 2004, a quorum of the council, Avinash Rangra, Anna Monclova, Manuel Payne and Katie Elms-Lawrence, exchanged private emails about an engineering design contract for water improvements in the city, including discussion about the best candidate for the job. A few days later, the council convened a public meeting to discuss the same issues. In reviewing the email incident, the resulting indictments that were dismissed by the Brewster County District Attorney, and the subsequent legal challenge brought by the councilpersons, Junell cited several past cases. In one from Kansas Supreme Court case, he noted that customary private discussions of governmental affairs among citizens are always protected, but everything changes ... when a person is elected to public office. The judge emphasized that, because closed speech by public officials threatens democracy, the open meetings act simply requires speech to be open and public. Junell also overruled allegations that the open meetings law is overly broad in its application or vague on its face, pointing to long-held test that among publicly deliberating bodies, there can be no informal discussions. There is either formal consideration of a matter in compliance with (the law), or an illegal meeting, he wrote in his decision. The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas filed a friend of the court brief in support of the Attorney General's position in the case. |

The Mountaineers faced one of their Coleman County rivals, the Panther Creek Panthers in Friday night football action at Mountaineer Stadium and came out with a decisive 64-0 victory to take into this Friday's District Championship game with the May Tigers.
The win clinches a playoff spot for the Mountaineers. The winner of Friday's game will more than likely take on the Richland Springs Coyotes and second place will probably face Calvert.
The Mountaineer Booster Club is selling playoff T-Shirts. Orders can be given to Katrina Guerrero or Shannon Herrod at the high school; Janice Fellers at Coleman County Telephone Coop, Wade Jones, or Mike Pritchard.
I had my camera set wrong for the first several plays of the game but I am not used to starting in the dark!
The Santa Anna Volunteer Fire Department did a little showing off at the game. Fire Chief Bill Gilbreath gives Lane Guthrie a tour. The sign reads, "Thank you Santa Anna and Coleman County for your generous donations".
