Congratulations to Coach Smith and the Texans!

The Mountaineers took on the May Tigers in May Friday night for the Division I District 13 Championship and came home empty handed. The Mountaineer's struggled from the start especially in containing the Tigers. The cold November night made the Tigers as slick as greased pigs as they slipped through tackle after Mountaineer missed tackle.
The Mountaineers 62-82 loss to the Tigers puts them in second place and sends them into the playoffs and a first round bi-district bye. The second round will put them against the winner of the Calvert and Brookesmith game which will be played at Gatesville Friday at 7:30 PM.
It has been pretty busy around here the last couple of weeks and I don't see it getting any better for the next month but I finally got around to posting the May game photos on the Sports Page. Most of them are not all that good but I am hoping Santa Claus will bring Pa a new camera but I think there is a not even a fat chance the fat man will bring one!

The Coleman County Stockshow Committee will meet on Monday, November 20th at 6:00 pm at the Bill Franklin Community Center at the Coleman Rodeo Grounds. Committee assignments and details for the January show will be discussed. For more information contact Sarah Beal, stockshow superintendent at 785-4291.
I know it's not Friday yet but I can't help myself. I have been trying to figure out what game to go watch this Friday.
The Mountaineers have a first round bye as most of you know if you care, of course, and as I have already told you. They will face the winner of the Brookesmith and Calvert Bi-District game. I could go watch them I guess. That game will be in Gatesville Friday at 7:30. Another good one, closer to home, might be the Richland Springs and Lometa game in San Saba at the "Graveyard" on Friday at 7:30.
Speaking of Friday Night Lights I can't help but let you know I have a new favorite TV show named Friday Night Lights. It comes on NBC on Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM and it is about a fictitious Texas high school football town. A lot of it is actually filmed in the Austin area and actually uses one of their local teams and stadiums for some of the footage. It is a little cheesy sometimes but it triggers something in me... what can I say? I just can't miss it or my week is messed up!
It makes me wonder about some of my friends and folks from Santa Anna like Dick Smith and Buddy Hardin. I haven't heard too much out of them this year.
After a little digging on the Net, it looks like Buddy Hardin's Hawley Bearcats will be taking on the Early Longhorns on Friday at Abilene's Shotwell Stadium. I may just have to go to that one since my new little granddaughter, Jolie, is still at Abilene Regional . Another good one might be Rusty Buzzard's Bluecats taking on the Haskell Indians.. I think they are Indians.. maybe.. still? That game will be in Cisco on Friday as well. Both starting at 7:30 according to the Abilene Reporter News web site.
The defending Division I 3A State Champion Wimberley Texans made famous by Coach Dick Smith's "Code Red" Defense are 9-1 for the season and undefeated in conference play and will have a Thursday game against Marion at North New Braunfels' Cougar Stadium according to the Austin American Statesman web site
I did hear from one Wylie Bulldog proud parent. Connie Culpepper Massey, of the Santa Anna Culpeppers, now of Abilene sent me this story about her son and, "..photo from November 10th, when the Abilene Wylie football team defeated Comanche to seal the district championship by winning all of their district games. My son, Cody Williams, is #61. He is pictured with his two best friends, Justin Parker #49 and Austin Griffis #72. "The Three Amigos" have known one another since they started school and played Pop Warner together when they were younger. Cody and Justin start on defense and Austin is the "long snapper" for the offense. All three are juniors at Abilene Wylie. We will travel to Southlake Carroll Stadium this Friday to play Decatur in the first round of the playoff's. Should be a great game, the teams are very evenly matched."
The Three Amigos

Congratulations and good luck to the Amigos, Bulldogs, and all those teams that made it to the playoffs!
