Have You Forgotten?
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?-- Darryl Worley country music singer/songwriter. I never will.. September 11, 2001. Where were you when the world stopped turning?-- Alan Jackson country music singer/songwriter. The September 11 Digital Archive will help you remember.
You know sometimes it doesn't hit you until it is personal.
Remembering those that have served and those that are serving our country.
Clay Hubbard tells me that Allen Tucker is now in Iraq. I believe that Maricela (Marty) Siller is also in Iraq. Please pray for their safety and families while they are gone.
Connie (Culpepper) Massey, of Abilene, tells me that her nephew, Shane Watson son of Bill Watson and Bernidine Raines of Vernon, is serving in the Air Force and is currently stationed in Tucson Arizona.
Please remember these Santa Anna folks that are serving our country in combat, training, or support: Maricela (Marty) Siller, Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, Clay Hubbard, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, Mark Rutherford, Allen Tucker, James Culpepper, and Shane Watson.
1228 American soldiers or sailors have died in Operation Enduring Freedom as reported by the Department of Defense and the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count. Pray for our country, its' leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.
Many service men and women return home safely. Operation Tribute to Freedom Homecoming Photographs.
By now you may know that I enjoy listening to country music. I think that I get it from my late Grandad, Ernest Coder who played in an country band in the late 20's on WBAP in Ft. Worth, and also from my Dad, Dan Pelton who always listened to a lot of instrumental country and a lot of Marty Robbins' music of which El Paso was always one of my favorites, and also my Step Dad, Tex Wright who always listened to country music while he was driving.. he drove a truck for a living when he first met my Mom and up until we moved from Garland to Santa Anna in 1975. I used to go with him on Christmas and Summer Vacations from school and he would tap out the rhythm of the music as we rolled down the highway. WBAP was one of his favorite stations and the Louisiana Hayride was one of his favorite programs along with Mystery Theater.
Anyhow I think that the country music of today has really done a great job of portraying our country and what it stands for, with the exception of the Dixie Chicks which for all practical purposes are no longer in the country music business. I never did like the Chicks too much, but I really like the music of Shedaisy which resembles the Chicks and has taken up where the Chicks' left off. I was watching CMT on Sunday and there was an interview of Shedaisy and they told about one of their new songs, Come Home Soon, that is about those that are left at home when soldiers go off to war. The Shedaisy website has several letters from some that are left behind while their loved ones are defending our country.
Fifteen inches of wind and 1/2 inch hail!
Cindy called me at work and said that we had some pretty high winds and small hail Tuesday afternoon. Since it is dark when I get home from work all I could see was no leaves on the trees and a tree limbs all over the ground.
A couple of weeks ago I shared with you a picture of the SweetGum tree that Cindy and I planted earlier this spring. It had a pretty nice display of yellow leaves, that is until it got involved with Jessica and Nate Kerr in a game of volleyball/kickball!
Well the few green leaves it still has on it are starting to turn red and I am still hoping for a nice Fall show from it.

I poured another one and half inches out of the gauge Monday night and I think we still have a chance of rain on Tuesday. I apologize for my inaccurate rain calculation but I just take a look at it and dump it as I am taking out the trash usually.
I was a little jealous of Cindy getting to see the water over the spillway at Lake Santanna last week so we went out again late Sunday afternoon and the water was still going over the spillway. It was not that long ago that we were out there and wondered if the lakes were going to dry up or what. If you missed her pictures of the lakes you can see them in the November 13th - 19th Articles. We drove all the way around the Lakes and came back around behind the North side to get a couple of other shots. The roads, especially around the lakes, are pretty treacherous and should not be traveled in a car or low centered vehicle.

Mountaineer Basketball
The JV girls played the Cherokee JV and once again it was before I got home from work so I did not get to take any pictures, but Cindy did get a few toward the end. I am pretty sure the JV Girls won and the score was at least 38-25 by her pictures.
The Varsity Lady Mountaineers came from behind to win 37-34 in a close one.
The Boys lost their game though in a tough battle 42-39.
The JV Girls game with Brownwood State School was cancelled Monday Night but the Varsity Girls and Boys played Lohn. The Lady Mountaineers ran away with the game against the ladies from Lohn winning I believe 84-34. It has been while I think since our girls have scored so many points in consecutive games. Some might say that the the score is run up but I believe if you are going to play some of the teams we will face in our district you have to prepare and that is that is what preseason is about. Our girls bench has been getting a lot of play time and we really have a lot of depth in our Juniors. All I can say is hang on because it is going to be a great season!
This group of girls started a tradition a year or so ago of singing the Alma Mater before home games
and I really like it and it is one of the things that really makes me proud of them.
The Mountaineers played probably one of the top five wildest games I have ever seen against the Lohn boys. The game was very close and very physical. Coach Freeman, the Coach and Superintendent from Lohn, has been around for many years and always expects and gets a lot out of his teams. This was one of the first times in many outings we have beat the Lohn boys. I believe that we came out on the winning side of some pretty close calls too.. which never hurts.. but our guys really played hard and deserved the win especially after Saturday's loss to them in the Consolation game of the Priddy Tournament.
Patrick Kerr pulled the jump ball duty in Monday night's game.
The Lady Mountaineers played the Sidney girls for Consolation in the Priddy Tournament and won Saturday afternoon.
Jessica Pelton was named to the All Tournament team and is shown here shooting a three point shot in the second game vs Evant.
Cindy, Jessica, and I had a discussion about just exactly what place Consolation is and I am still a little unsure but here is Dictionary.com's definition of Consolation which kind of says it is a third and fourth place playoff. Cindy said it best, that the teams in the Consolation bracket have only lost one game.
My question is in the case where you are the team that wins Consolation you have only lost one game and if the team you lost to is the tournament Champion does that mean that you tied for second? In Priddy's Tournament they showed a Third Place game on the Championship bracket side. So does the team that loses that get Fourth Place? And the if loser of that game is Fourth Place they would also have lost two games so Consolation must be a higher finish than Fourth.. right? I say that it must depend on where the team you lost to finishes.. for example in the one shown above if you lost to the Champion and win Consolation at the least you tied for Second Place. If you lost to the Second Place finisher then you tied for Third, and if you lost to the Third Place finisher then you tied for Fourth Place, and lastly if you lost to the Fourth Place finisher you tied for Fifth. I sure don't claim to be a basketball expert or anything because this is pretty confusing logic!
The boys also played in the Consolation game but lost to the Lohn team.
Check the Santa Anna ISD's website for the basketball schedule.
