The Risk is Real - Serving our Country

Remembering those that have served and those that are serving our country.

You know sometimes it doesn't hit you until it is personal.

1370 American soldiers or sailors have died in Operation Enduring Freedom as reported by the Department of Defense and the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count. Pray for our country, its' leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.

Please remember these Santa Anna folks that are serving our country in combat, training, or support: Maricela (Marty) Siller, Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, Clay Hubbard, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, Mark Rutherford, Allen Tucker, James Culpepper, and Shane Watson.

Many service men and women return home safely. Operation Tribute to Freedom Homecoming Photographs.

Mountaineers take on Paint Rock

Well Cindy and I traveled, along with several others, Tuesday night to watch the Santa Anna Varsity teams take on the Paint Rock Indians and Maidens and it was one of the ugliest Indian fights/basketball games I have ever seen. The Lady Mountaineers really came together with some good teamwork and won their game 67-41 and the boys won their game 82-63.

Well I have been having some brightness problems with my camera ever since the Livestock Show and I finally got it fixed before the boys game so hopefully the pictures will be a little better.

I must confess that I have kind of picked on Tasha Zarate this year with my camera. She is camera shy and likes to be the one that hides when I get my camera out. I guess it started when I would catch her sitting by Jessica and helping the cheerleaders on the sidelines during football games. She would hide from me and I would eventually catch her in a shot and it has just kind of gone on since then. Well at the Paint Rock game during the first half of the boys game I caught being stingy with the French fries with her little brother Shelton. During the second half of the games I was moving to a stairwell on one end of the court for some better shots and Tasha and Bianca Dean were nearby and kept me pretty entertained with a play by play of the boys game and a recap of their game. Well I have come up with a new nickname for Tasha, also known as Taz by her friends in low places.. her new nickname is Tazerati.. you know like the Italian Maserati sports cars. Seriously she is a pretty good kid and a heck of three point shooter when she is "ON".

Tasha Zarate once again hits one from three point land, even though it is a little smaller in the Paint Rock gym.

Coaches strategy meeting between games.

ROOOOO DEEEEE!

Cheerleaders lead cheer for the boys at halftime.

Mrs. Harper takes a break at halftime of boys game.. she really does love her Mountaineer Basketball.

Game photo albums are on the Sports Page.

Halftime Study Hall for Mrs Guthrie's History class.

I think heard one of the girls ask the question "Who was Charles Lindbergh?".. and I thought I would share another of my Granddad Ernest Coder's photos of Lindbergh's "The Spirit of St. Louis" with you.

With this being the Inaugural Week I thought I would share a couple of his photos of Calvin Coolidges' Inauguration and Parade with you as well.

Early tanks in the parade.

The Internet is a Small World

I was quite surprised to hear from one of my long lost cousins, Jerry Pelton, last week that ran across SantaAnnaNews.com.

Jerry Pelton grew up in Garland and joined the Navy in 1958. He and his sister Linda were pretty close to my Mom and Dad and he actually went on a family vacation to Arkansas with Mom and Dad before he left. They did not here from him much after that. I never knew him since I was born in 1963 but Mom and Dad always spoke of him when I was growing up.

Jerry made a career of the Navy and retired from the Navy Experimental Diving Unit in Panama City, Florida in 2003 and now makes Florida his home.

The Internet is a Small World - Part II

I told you that I was quite surprised to hear from one of my long lost cousins, Jerry Pelton. I was even more surprised at some old photos that he sent to me of my Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa Pelton.

This picture is of my Grandma and Grandpa, William Newman and Pearl Elizabeth Pelton, when they were first married. I am not sure of the date they were married but I think it was in 1913. Grandpa was born in 1895 and died when I was one in 1965. Grandma was born in 1890 in Giles County, Tennessee and passed away in 1983. They had six children, Ethel Lee, Melvin James, Lester William, Ruby Nell, JD, and my Dad, Dan Arden.

This one is of Grandma and Grandpa at their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

This one is of my Dad before he left for Japan in 1951.

This is my Dad and Grandma.

And this one is all three together

My cousin Jerry is still sending me some pictures and I can't help but share them with you. They are all from a much different time in our country. This one is of my grandpa when he was 9 months old.

This one is of Grandpa at age 17.

This one is another of my Dad, Grandma and Grandpa and some my Uncles and Aunt.

This picture is of my Grandma and Grandpa and their children in order Ethel Lee, Melvin James, Lester William, Ruby Nell, JD, and my Dad, Dan Arden.

And this one is of my cousin Jerry when he was stationed as a diver in Kodiak, Alaska in 1968.

Mountaineers take on the Water Valley Wildcats

The Santa Anna teams took on the Water Valley Wildcats in District basketball action Friday night in Water Valley and came home a little scratched up. The Lady Mountaineers lost 46-67 and the Mountaineers lost 58-84.

Tasha Zarate was hot from three point land.

Bryan Fellers takes it up for two.

Cheerleaders lead cheer for the boys as they head off the court for halftime.

Coach Libby takes a three pointer for half of the pot at halftime for a Water Valley fundraiser.. notice I said takes and not makes! Maybe it was your boots Coach..

SantaAnnaNews.com Photos for Sale

I have debated whether or not to do this but I am going to try it out and see how it works for a while.

Several have asked me for copies or prints of various photos on the site. Based on my experience and what I have read in various publications, photos printed at home just are not lasting very well, especially in the Sun or bright rooms. Some that we have printed out look good for a couple of weeks and just seem to fade too fast. So I have found a site that will do a pretty good job of printing and of course all the photo places can print from a floppy or compact disk now.

Many want photos of some of the various school games and since this whole deal really started after the Booster Club asked if I would take some photos for the programs and maybe to give each athlete a CD with some photos on it at the Sports Banquet in the Spring, I want to be sure that each of you knows about it. The CD's given to each athlete won't have all of the photos but will have some of the better ones, simply because they all won't fit on a single CD. Of course you can always just right click on any image on this site and print it out (please note that they are copyrighted but I will grant you personal use.. especially if they are of you or one of your children!). For other use please get my permission before using them.

The photos on the site are also not the original quality or size in most cases, because they have to be redone for the Internet and faster loading. Some of the older photos won't be suitable for printing larger than 4x6 prints because of adjustments made when using my old camera. My new camera is an 8 megapixel so most of the new ones will work for up to 20x30 prints and possibly larger if I can find a place to print them.

Here is the picture resolution recommended for each print size to help ensure that you get a high-quality print:

Wallet size: 320x240

4x6 prints: 1024x768 (640x480 resolution is acceptable but not always recommended)

5x7 prints: 1152 x 864 pixels (1 megapixel)

8x10 prints: 1600 x 1200 pixels (2 megapixels) (1280x960 is acceptable but not recommended)

8x10 prints (cropped from original image): 1920 x 1600 pixels (3+megapixels)

16x20 prints: 1600 x 1200 (this is a bare minimum, for best results 2048 x 1536)

20x30 prints: 1600x1200 minimum, for best results 5 megapixel (2560 x1920)

With that said I will be selling season CD's for $5 each and you can get the whole season for each sport and then print out whatever you want. The 2004 Football season with pep-rallys, homecoming parade, and some halftime activities is on one CD and the 2004 Volleyball season on another. The Basketball season should be available at the end of the season but will probably be on two CD's.. one Girls and one Boys.

The following pricing will be for professional quality commercial prints:

Per Print

4 wallet size

$6 sheet

4" x 6" singles

$1 each

4" x 6" multiples

6 for $5 or 15 for $10

Prices are subject to change but I will give you notice before ordering. Plus shipping and handling which is currently $2 for any amount.
