The Front Page
Remembering those that have served and those that are serving our country.
You know sometimes it doesn't hit you until it is personal.
January 1st, 2005 was the date of the official send off ceremonies for the 56 Brigade Combat Team of 36th Infantry Division of the Texas Army National Guard held in Waco at Baylor University's Floyd Casey Stadium and December 10th will be the official Re Deployment Ceremonies welcoming them back at the same location. See the official 56 Brigade Combat Team site for the latest news and photos.
Please remember these Santa Anna folks that are serving our country in military combat, training, or support: Maricela (Marty) Siller, Clay Stewardson, Eddie Dawson, Ike Garza, James Watson, Austin Voss, Randy Casey, Mike Montgomery II, Mark Rutherford, Allen Tucker, James Culpepper, Shane Watson, Brandon Beloat, Glen Donham, and Jeffrey Watson.
Pray for our country, its' leaders, and our soldiers and sailors.

Friday
There is plenty of stuff to do this Friday.
Both the varsity basketball teams won in the first round of the Lohn Tournament. The Mountaineers played a little closer game with the team from Rochelle than they did on Tuesday winning by eight points on Tuesday and only by three on Thursday. The Mountaineers will face Panther Creek in round two on Friday at about 5:00PM. The team from Rochelle has already played and beat the Panther Creek boys so the Mountaineers will hopefully make it to the finals on Saturday.
The Lady Mountaineers will face the Rochelle Varsity after they both won over the respective Junior Varsity teams. in round one. The Lady Mountaineers lost on Tuesday to the Lady Hornets so they will have to get it together in the rematch. I am not sure of the start time but I believe it will be just before the boys game.
There are also some great State Championship Football games on Saturday.
Santa Anna's own and Wimberly Texans' Defensive Coach Dick Smith will be leading his Code Red Defense against the team from Gainsville at the Waco ISD Stadium this Saturday at 6:30PM. It would make for a great day to go Waco for some Christmas shopping. Since Cindy's mom, Linda (Robinett) White, lives in Robinson we have enjoyed Christmas shopping at the many stores and the huge mall in Waco over the years. Then you could head over to Floyd Casey Stadium and see the return ceremonies of the Texas Guard at 2 and then out to the Wimberly - Gainsville game.
I would love to go myself but we are going the other direction on US84 to Abilene. Our middle daughter, Jennifer, will be graduating from Cisco Junior College in Abilene on Saturday morning. Jennifer will be an LVN when she graduates and we are really proud of her. Then I think we are going to do a little shopping and then head out to Shotwell to watch Throckmorton and Turkey Valley in the State Six Man Championship. We may try to make it back and watch the boys at Lohn if it is too cold.
That's about it... Way to go Jennifer, have a good weekend, good luck Lady Mountaineers, Mountaineers, and Texans!
Oh and a side note about the website songs. If they are bothering you, just click on stop, next to refresh and the home buttons at the top of Internet Explorer to stop the music... I don't want anybody to get in too much trouble at work!
Brrr!
Somebody left the gate open in the Gap and the North wind is blowing right down Lee Street through my front door!
The records highs of last week are gone but certainly not forgotten as the temperatures dip into the teens on Wednesday night.
Oh well it will make for some great basketball weather and the Santa Anna basketball teams will be keeping warm and playing in the Lohn Tournament Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I believe in round one that the JV Girls will play Rochelle's Varsity, the Varsity Girls will play Rochelle's JV, and the Varsity Boys will face the Rochelle Varsity Boys.
I am not sure of the scores but we just got through playing the Rochelle teams on Tuesday night and I think that the girls lost and the boys won.
Good luck to the Lady Mountaineers and Mountaineers in the Lohn Tournament
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Ok kids, I hope that you have been real good because before you know it Santa Claus will be here!
I have been especially good this year and just happen to have already heard from Santa and he told me his going to be at the Findley's on December 16th, 17th, and 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30. Also, he will be at Santa Anna National Bank on December 22nd.
Santa is making his list so if you have been as good as I have you better make your list of what you want so you can tell him when he comes to see us. I would bet you could get your picture made with him too!
Christmas
I usually put up all of our outside Christmas lights on Thanksgiving weekend while Cindy does all the inside decorating but since I was sick I had to wait until this past weekend. Saturday's record high temperature of 89 made for perfect weather but makes it a little harder to get in the Christmas spirit. But Sunday's cold dip got the Christmas fires burning for sure.
There were a couple of Sunday football games with snow and even Monday Night Football's game between Seattle and Philadelphia was played with snowflakes falling in Philadelphia. It was kind of funny to see snow and ice piled up on the sideline of one of the games I saw Sunday.
Anyhow I thought it was time to get in the Christmas spirit with some sights and sounds for Christmas. I hope you enjoy the Christmas music and it doesn't get you in trouble at work!
Football Playoffs
Once again Friday I was wanting to go watch Throckmorton and Richland Springs play in the Six Man Semi Final but had to go to a Christmas party at work instead. It beats last week being sick and Cindy and I both had a nice get together with some of the great folks that I work with.
I hear it was quite a game as the Throckmorton Greyhounds beat the defending State Champion Richland Springs Coyotes 72-58 and almost even 45'd them a couple of times. The 14-0 Throckmorton Greyhounds will face the 14-0 Turkey Valley Patriots, who lost in the state final last year to Richland. The game is set for Saturday at 6PM in Abilene at Shotwell again which is great for us that don't want to drive to Lubbock!
Speaking of playoffs, Dick Smith's "Code Red" defense of the Wimberly Texans held the team from West Orange Stark to 29 points in the Texans' 52-29 victory over the West Orange Stark Mustangs in the Class 3A, Division I semifinals. There is a good Austin American-Statesman article covering the game last Friday.
This will be the Texans first trip ever to the State final and they will face Gainsville at the Waco ISD Stadium this Saturday at 6:30PM
Good luck to Dick and the Wimberly Texans!
