By this much Kendra Coleman took second place at the Regional Track Meet
Kendra, an SAHS Freshman, finished second at the Region II - 1A Regional Track Meet in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 12.60 qualifying for the State Meet in Austin along with Jamilla Ward from Knox City in First Place with a 12.43.
As you see in the photo above no one is even close behind these two at the Regional Final but the competition will be tough in Austin. A check of TexasTrack.com shows the other regions' Girls 100 Meter times of a 12.45 and 12.59 from Region I, a 12.52 and a 13.06 from Region III, and times of 12.73 and 12.76 from Region IV. It should be quite a race and I wish I could go but I am afraid I will have to wait for next year. The race is scheduled for 1:15 PM Saturday afternoon for those that are going be sure and get there early.

New program set to help residents make wise food choices
Submitted by Debbie Hailey - Coleman County Extension Agent - Family & Consumer Sciences
Nutrition classes are being offered locally to help residents learn how to plan and serve healthy meals. The classes are based on the recommendations of MyPyramid, which was developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The next class will be held at 1:00, Tuesday, May 16, in the Community Room of the Coleman Housing Authority High Rise. By attending the class, MyPyramid: Better Health with Better Choices, participants will learn how to apply three keys to good health: variety, moderation and physical activity.
"There is no 'perfect' food that will give you all the nutrients you need," said Sharon Francey Robinson, a nutrition specialist with Texas Cooperative Extension. Although many foods are rich sources of certain vitamins and minerals, Robinson said, every food lacks some of those essential nutrients.
"If you eat only a few kinds of foods, you're missing out on some important nutrients that you need to remain healthy," she said. Robinson advises people to eat a variety of choices from all five of the food groups illustrated in MyPyramid. Another important key to eating healthfully is moderation, Robinson said. "When shopping or eating out, select foods and beverages with the least amount of saturated or trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, added sugar or alcohol."
Adults are advised to get at least 30 minutes of moderately intensive physical activity every day. To avoid weight gain, 60 minutes of physical activity every day is recommended. That activity should be in addition to your usual daily activities and can be spread throughout the day and can include enjoyable activities such as a brisk walk and gardening. Pregnant women and people who have a health condition, take medications or are more than 40 years old should ask their doctor about which types of physical activity are right for them.
To learn more about MyPyramid and to get healthy eating tips, contact Debbie Hailey, county Extension agent, at 625-4519, and ask about nutrition education classes available in your community.
Please join us for this informative class Tuesday, May 16, at the High Rise Community Room.
Well my little buddy, Clay Stewardson, will be out of the Navy pretty soon but he is not quite finished being a world traveler yet. I think he is taking one last "vacation" on Uncle Sam!
He recently sent me this photo of himself in Singapore at the Sri Mariamman Temple. After doing a little research on the temple I found out that it is Singapore's oldest Hindu Temple built in 1843 and this view is actually the rear of the temple.
Clay should be "retiring" some time towards the end of May.

After the Prom Is Over
Removing Prom Stains
Soap and Detergent Association : Cleaning Matters
Submitted by Debbie Hailey, CEA-FCS
When Cinderella's beautiful ball gown disappeared at the stroke of midnight, the makeup stains on her dress magically vanished, too.
In the real world, there's no fairy godmother to banish those prom stains, but fortunately Nancy Bock, Vice President, Consumer Education at the Soap and Detergent Association, has some advice. Before you begin, check the fabric care labels. Some items, such as shawls, pocket handkerchiefs or dress shirts may be washable, but tuxedos and most prom dresses are dryclean only.
Deodorant: Check to see if the stain has changed the color of the fabric. If so, apply ammonia to fresh stains; white vinegar to old ones. Then, rinse. The next step (or the first step, if there's been no color change) is to use a prewash stain remover. Launder using the hottest water that is safe for the fabric. Stubborn stains may also respond to oxygen bleach in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric.
Makeup: Pretreat with a prewash stain remover or liquid laundry detergent. Launder in the hottest water that's safe for the fabric.
Lip balm and lipstick: Pretreat the stain with a prewash stain remover or liquid laundry detergent, and then wash in warm water. Line or air dry. If the stain remains, repeat the procedure. Use chlorine bleach in the wash, if it's safe for the fabric.
Perfume: Pretreat with a prewash stain remover or liquid laundry detergent. Launder in the hottest water that's safe for the fabric.

Cindy and I went to the Sports Banquet Tuesday night and the Spurs and Mavs started playing about the time I got home so I am afraid the News is a little light for Wednesday but I will try to catch up for Thursday.
The Banquet was held in the Old Gym/temporary cafeteria so it was really hot with no air conditioning. It kind of reminded me of the good old days when I was in Junior High and High School and we would work out in there. Most of those days I have tried to forget but they are seared on my brain for some reason!
The Banquet was really nice and there was a lot of recognition of our athletes and their achievments this year. The Bar BQ meal was good and so were the decorations. The programs and placemats were really good too and had that Janice Fellers' touch. She has done a real nice job the last few years with the football programs and such.
We had a lot of rain, wind, and hail over the weekend. Late Friday we had one of the worst hail storms I can remember. From pea sized to quarter sized hail in town with some tennis ball sized hail reported in Coleman and North of town. It seemed to come in waves as we had three or four different storms move through the area.
Luckily we did not see any tornados. All of our vehicles recieved some damage. I am not sure about the roof's yet but I would imagine they are also. I watched as the hail stones would hit about ten feet out in the yard on the North side and then bounce up against the house like someone throwing rocks. I have never seen a storm knock the leaves off of the pecan trees like this one did either. I would bet that half the leaves were knocked off and most of them were the stems and all. Cindy's caladiums took quite a beating also as they were just coming up.
