Special Prayer Requests
It is with great sadness that I tell you that Cynthia (Garrett) Philpot passed away late Wednesday evening. After a brave battle with cancer, Cynthia has gone to a better place with no pain or suffering.
Services are to be held at First Baptist Church in Coleman Saturday at 2:00PM with burial at the Santa Anna Cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday from 7:00-9:00 PM at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman. For a complete obituary see the Stevens Funeral Home website.
Please remember the family of Cynthia in your prayers during their time of need.
Also be with those that are hurt or hurting from the tragic I-35 bridge collapse last Wednesday in Minnesota. The bridge, which crosses the Mississippi River between the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, collapsed last week during rush hour traffic and has claimed the lives of several and injured many others.
Double H Family Dining to Hold Benefit for Philpot Family
I read in Tuesday's Coleman newspaper that there is going to be a benefit for the Philpot family at Double H Sunday at 4:00. The benefit meal will be BBQ Brisket plates and all the trimmings. Randy Turner's ColemanNews.com says it starts at 5:00.
I am not sure of the status of this event under the circumstances.
Barry Bonds Hits 756!
I have been waiting and watching the last few weeks, like some of you maybe, for Barry Bonds to hit his 756th home run to pass Hank Aaron's Major League Baseball record of 755 career home runs.
I missed 755 and sure enough I missed 756 while working on the News Tuesday night between Barry's at bat.
I walked into the living room to catch Hank Aaron's recorded congratulation on the jumbotron at the park.
I did get to see the replays... but it is not quite the same, especially after staying up late and watching all these games!
And the survey says...
Thanks to all of you that participated and thanks for reading SantaAnnaNews.com!
McIver Named Defensive MVP at All-Star Game
Santa Anna's Ben McIver was named the defensive MVP at the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association's Division I All-Star football game according to this Abilene Reporter News article.
McIver apparently had an outstanding offensive performance as well completing six of eight passes and two touchdowns with one interception to lead the East over the West 54-38 at Lubbock's Lowery Field July 21st.
See this article by Travis Cram and this second article also by Cram from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal for more from the game.
Job 5:8-10 (King James Version)
8 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause: 9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number: 10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
